Hi,

I've just signed up and I'm thinking about getting a Defender 110 county.

I'm looking 2nd hand, what sort of pitfalls should I be looking for when buying?

I'm thinking going to look at one in the Newbury area on Sunday

Cheeky I know but is there anyone local that would be willing to have a look over it with me and offer advice?

i bought a 90 a month or 2 back and just took the attitude if you see it and like it then go for it, most of them leak oil and bottom of the door rust and on bulkhead, so long as its not to bad its repairable anyways, they are big toys to get stuck into but if you want to use it as a straight away daily truck then make sure chassis and main body panels arent full of rust

I went to see it on Sunday and I like. I'm no mechanic though so I'm hoping to get it checked over before making an offer.

I feel like a kid before christmas at the moment

ah i went all the way to portsmouth for mine so just had it there after giving it a quick look over and test drive, it had oil leaks and small rust on bulkhead and doors but all of its fixable, they are like big mecano cars so everything just unbolts lol

Just realised that I never updated you lot...

I bought it.

I liked it, mu wife liked it and our 3 year old liked it.

It's/She's (arrived with the name Lilly) a 1985 110 that was rebuild in 09 on a galv chassis as station wagon. She's a bitsa landy but were happy.

As soon as I find time I'll get someone who knows what they are doing to make a list of the bits that need fixing

I've already rewired the trailer socket and had to mess with the front lights to get them working. One front sidelight is a bit dodgy but it works if given a tap  Replacement bits are ordered.

i think as soon as you see one you just want it and they all need fixint to an extent so doesnt matter much. at least the chassis shouldnt have any problems
the bulb should just be a corroded connection by the sounds of it. have you had loads of exited landy owners waving when they see you? the best bit i reckon

No waves as yet, but I have been waving. I also wave at other 7s (Caterham or otherwise) when out but the waves are significantly different. In the 7 the aim is to get your hand as high as possible so might be seen (the lack of roof/windows/windscreen helps), I'm high enough in the landy already so it's a bit more subtle.

I think the side light is a connection in the lamp holder thing as it was the same when I tries swapping sides. I think its the small pins that connect to the loom??

They looked pretty cruddy but I couldn't easily clean them.

I don't know how to upload them here and my webspace is about to disappear.

If pic's can be hosted here I'll be able to get some landy pics up soon.

In the mean time here are a couple of the 7

That said the windscreen is no more and thus the roof so it's a bit more like

now but without the tyre rack on the roll bar.
