Hi i'm Mark, i'm looking at buying a Defender, I want a solid base vehicule I can work on but use straight away. Bound to be asking lots of dumb questions!!

I'm based in London and Birmingham but work away from home so am in a different town each week!!
Hi Mark, I am a Fender driver based in London. If you are getting a Fender get a County station wagon. Because from 03.01.2012 the London Emissions Zone comes into effect and any COMERCIAL or UTILITY Land Rover built before Jan 2002 will be liable for a £100 aday tariff for driving within the LEZ:mad:.

Thank you for that Snaggers110, I'm looking at an ex MOD landie so I guess Boris will have put that in the commercial/utility bracket, bad times!!!

Alright Mark, Basicaly TfL have rounded all the Commercial and Utility vehicles in to one generic description regardless of how the owner uses the vehicle. Inshort it sucks mate. Alot of enthusiasts will have to get rid of much beloved vehicles:mad: I have not looked into this myself but I think the Landrover 90 has escaped the LEZ. If you go onto the LEZ/TFL website it will give you a brakdown of the vehicles that are affected by the LEZ. Then when you see an ex-MOD 90 for sale put the VRN into the data base checker and and this could be the way to go about it:D Worth a try mate.

Thank you, Gerry. Your info has already stopped me making a big mistake!!
I'll look into 90 situation. Other than that my options seem to be to just use and keep the landie in Birmingham, however the plan was to use it to and from work on snowy days and work is in London. Or to look at a LPG conversion if this can be done on old defenders and the downside is the cost.
