Hello, my name is Becks and I am looking into buying a Defender 90 (County) with my Dad. It's to be insured in his name but I seem to be having a little trouble getting insurance quotes on the ones I have seen...mainly because they used to be hard tops and now been modified to have additional windows - is this is problem anyone else has had ? My Dad is (ahem, well over 50) and I am 28 - both clean licences and no accidents. I have a (proper) Mini and my Dad has other cars too so no insurance problems there!

Would really appreciate any help/advice.
Many thanks, Becks :)

p.s My Dad also has a Series 3 LBW, 1981 only 45K miles, FSH, 2.6 petrol for sale, started off as a project; will need to be trailed away but new parts also available, ill heath forces sale (hence the Defender) - if anyone's interested please let me know !

!

Don't know why the conversion should be a problem, mines been modified and I've never had a problem with insurance. :)

You need to comparethemeerkat.com ......... simples ;)

:welcome2: becks

Have a quick browse around the site or if you try the search button there have been quite a few insurance threads recently that may help.

Usual answers seem to be

NFU
Adrian Flux
Co-Op

and of course there are a few different insurance supermarkets that are worth a shot (compare the meerkat, moneysupermarket etc.)

Thanks both for your replies.....Bromsgrove Defender, are the modifications listed on your log book with the DVLA or do you just let the insurance company know it's been modified when you are doing a quote? I did a compare the market and only got one quote back - I must be going wrong somewhere !?!
Adrian Flux are good (I have my Mini insurance with them) but even they are coming up at over £600

Cheers :)

If you put windows in a van tell your insurance , done mine they did not care about the windows but they assume your gonna put more seats in the rear, if your not putting extra seats in tell them it may be cheaper , mine did not change when i told them.
