Hello everyone I would be really grateful for your advice. We have a 1986 110, the only modification is power steering, other than that, it's original. The current problem started by it cutting out while driving. This happened a couple of times on a journey of around an hour but turning the key, it started again while running. Then just leaving the drive it happened again in the middle of the narrow street and wouldn't restart. So the local garage came and towed it in, had it for a couple of weeks, replaced the starter which had burnt out and reported that it started and ran every morning no problem, though they didn't actually drive it anywhere. So we paid and took it. Did a 15 minute journey, no problem. Drove it home again, no problem. Then tried to go out in it again a couple of hours later, wouldn't start. We do the warm up routine with the key for 20 secs from cold as usual, it turns over but won't fire. I have rung the garage and they will 'call me back' to be honest, I think they are fed up with us though they shouldn't be as we have spent enough! This is the second starter, also new battery, clutch, slave cylinder etc. Reading around on this forum and elsewhere, it seems to me to be a fuel problem, which was my gut feeling when it stalled on me in the narrow street here. Possibly the fuel shut off valve? Does this sound right? If so, is it a DIY job? Thanks in advance for help and advice x
