I haven't posted any questions on here for I while, as a search normally answers but can anybody help as i'm stuck. I need to find the gearbox number on a 300 tdi, as the clutch master cylinder is leaking ( found that out on here) but there is two types of master cylinder. Before this number and after. Haynes manual says there is a metal plate on gearbox been under it for an hour now, and no metal plate! There is a number cast along the bottom though.
PS presume gearbox is at the front and transfer 'box behind if not that would explain the problem.

yep, but not being a pixie is no good with my eyes, mind you i might as well have been blindfolded for all the good.

It should be just below the filler plug..................er, I think.

Aye jus below the filler, flat bit, obvious once you see it, may need to spend a bit o time scrubbing away all the ****e, take a torch!
