Hi there.
I'm Andy and I live in West Berkshire with my partner. She used to have an old, pre-TD5 Defender 90, and last week we bought a 2001 Manual V8 Petrol Discovery II with 94,000 miles. It'll mainly be used for towing a horse box short distances, so we're not too worried about the fuel consumption, though our mortgage company says we're not allowed to take it out of Berkshire. It's very high spec for its age and we love it. It'll be going in for a full service shortly, and to sort out an oil leak from the NSF wheel, which I think is driveshaft oil. The Watts link needs new bushes too, as it steers with all the precision of a drunk Crane fly. If an iceberg pulls out in front of me then James Cameron will have to make another film. Other than that, it's in good nick and everything seems to work.
We're reasonably good DIY mechanics, and we generally know what NOT to touch, and so I'll be looking here for various hints and tips as we go. Of course if we can contribute anything back, we will.
All the best.
