Hello all, nice to be here, now a first question; how much force to move wastegate?

Hi all,

I bought myself a 97 disco 1 a few weeks ago. This forum had already been a great source of useful info.

I screwed the smoke screw in one turn, and feel an improvement pulling away.

I removed the egr, I'm not sure if I could feel a difference there, but I had the car full of family and camping gear.

The serpentine squeal showed up, the penny trick solved it. Saved me from buying a new belt, and possibly bearings.

Next plan is to clean the intercooler and carry on with fuel pump tweaks. Before doing this I thought I'd best check the wastegate. Uh oh. I grabbed the actuator bar with some long nosed pliers, and can't shift it. This could be because the pliers are long, the access is awkward and the leverage is against me. Or it could be stuck.

How much force should it take to shift? Does it move left (towards exhaust) or right (towards inlet)? Any tricks to get it moving again? How soon will my engine explode if I don't fix it? I did 1000 miles since I bought the car, half motorway with a family and a full load. Would it have gone pop already if it was really stuck?

thanks folks,
Robin.

Wecome to the loonyzone, mate! :)
Your study of the forum hasn't informed you that it is best to post questions about a Disco in the err.............Disco section, then?
You will be more likely to get a response in there, some members don't look in here in a month of Sundays! :)
