Hello all, help required

Hello all, I'm looking to buy my first 4x4 I've been looking for a while now and found a 1997 discovery 2.5 diesel for sale locally at a very cheap price! It's been off the road since may so has no mot, but I don't mind a bit of a project over the winter Only thing is it won't start. The current owner assures me that nothing was wrong with it when it come off the road, he just upgraded to a range rover and it's sat there.

I knew the battery was died so I tried jump starting it, nothing it just clicked, then tried a new battery it tried to turn over but struggled and turned over once or twice that was it.

Anyone got any ideas what this could be down to or what else should be checked first??

what battery are you trying to use a tdi does still need a fairly sizeable battery, check the battery terminals are clean, then check the earth from the engine to the chassis,

connect a jump lead from the battery negative to one of the lifting eyes on the engine then try it

No not bought it yet, made on offer on it but the owner was away for the weekend so find out if he wants it gone tomorrow.

The battery was only a month old of my mates pajero so should have been powerful enough to turn over, terminates looked pretty good condition. I'll try the earth as suggested
