Hello, a newbie here to scratch that itch...

Hello!

My name is Richard and after wanting a land rover for circa 20 years I am now finally in a position to buy/store/run/enjoy one.

You have a great forum here and I have been having a read through of some of the threads, I am sure I will call upon some of the experience soon enough for hints and tips.

Could anyone recommend a good place to buy an enthusiast owned vehicle? I have looked on the likes of ebay, pistonheads and autotrader but nothing has really taken my fancy so far. I have narrowed it down to either a Defender 110 Hard Top or a Discovery 200/300tdi. I have up to, but no more than, £3k to spend. It will be used as a 2nd weekend vehicle, to transport mountain bikes, fishing gear and surfboards etc – not always at the same time; perhaps with the occasional bit of green lane and off road work thrown in.

I wanted to go to billing this weekend but sadly I am in Scotland :doh:– the good news being is that there is a Series 2 on the farm we are staying at that I can drive! :clap2:

If anyone has or knows of a suitable Land Rover for sale I would be greatfull for any info.

Hey welcome Squares.

If your looking for an enthusiast owned vehicle you may need to be patient and go view loads. There are some really well cared for and totally unspoilt vehicles out there but you will have to look long and hard. I really steer clear of eblag though, preferring to look local as I've travelled miles to view stuff before and not even got out of the car when I've seen how crap it was.

Thanks for the reply and information. I know what you mean about travelling to view cars, I also gave that up a long time ago.

By enthusiast owned I mean something that has been well serviced and looked after. I am not after a minter, the car will be a work horse and a few marks and knocks are fine, as long as the rest is good.

I have been known to weild the odd spanner, but I do need something that is currently MOT'd and useable.
