sorry if a stupid question but if a height sensor are faulty would it not work at all? as you will see in my other post having a problem with it dropping on one side and thought maybe faulty height sensor but surely if sensor is faulty the suspension would not work at all and not just drop when left standing can some pls confirm this for me thanks

Depends on the fault. I don't actually know what happens if the sensor is "dead" and sending no signal whatsoever. More commonly though, the height sensor can be worn out and start sending erratic signals, confusing the EAS ECU into thinking the height is changing all the time and ECU then keeps trying to match the rest of the bags so the car stays level. But in your case I'm leaning towards a leak that perhaps you just haven't found yet. Dropping to bumps in 20 mins is too quick for the EAS on its own.

and if there was a leak would the car not try to level itself to compensate dropping the whole car down not just one corner how can i test the height sensor to be certain read somewhere you can put a multi meter on it but cant find it now ?

If you have a radio and you turn the volume up and get a load of noise and crackling when you turn the knob, thats is what happens with a worn height sensor, the noisy signal confuses the ECU.

As per your other thread, you can rule out the sensor by freezing the suspension, you do this by leaving a door open or the tailgate. If it still goes down you most likely have a leak. Often this is the airbag where it folds under at the bottom. If the airbags are more than 7 or 8 years old they almost certainly need replacing.
Put the suspension up to extended height, freeze it and spray the airbags with leak detector or a 50/50 water & washing up liquid in a spray bottle.

rite i have just turned the car off and left the door open and it still drops quite quickly on the front drivers side as i said there is a slight leak on the rear but cant find anything on the front where its dropping the most what should i try next ????

U got a leak then init... how have your tried to find leaks?

i have sprayed all the air bags several times with soap water and also leak detector spray which showed the very slow leak on the rear drivers airbag but nothing on any of the others also sprayed the valve block and what i could get at of the pipework to the offending corner and no signs of leaking and as say the drivers front corner will drop all the way down within 20-30 mins max ????

So theres a leak from the rear but not at the front but its the front that drops but theres no clicking when it does which suggests it aint self levelling to compensate for the leak at the rear? its over my head im afraid

thats rite there is a small leak and i mean small it has stayed up for days at the rear to be honest however today was on the stops front and rear and would do nothing fiddled around with the pump/valve block etc and did not really do nothing but decided to come up it seems to work as it should up-down etc but does dance about very slightly all the time and then i turnit of and with oors open or closed the drivers front will be all the way down in 20 min max

is the only place it can leak from the valve block where the pipes come out the side or could it be inside somehow (not sure how they work) pls could you let me know as i will trace the pipe back and do a detailed test of it today to hopefullly find the leak or eliminate the pipework/bag but if could let me know about the valve block that be great thanks

Very possibly you have an internal leak at the valve block, if you have not found any leaks at the airbag or the inlet to the valve block. It's possible for the valves themselves to leak out and it's not easy to detect because the valves are under their cover. You can not leak test it, but by eliminating other sources, and observing a drop when you leave the door open, the only possibility would be the valves.
I suggest you find the valve the controls the leaking airbag, open the valve cover (if it's the top one, if the bottom you need to take out the valve block and do all valves) and test for the leak directly at the valve. Ofcoyrse, the right action would be to renew the entire valve block.

If the leak is not in the airbag or pipe work it will be in the valve block or it could just possibly be the driver module. If the car is high mileage, get an overhaul kit and do it up. See rover-renovations or www.rangerovers.net No need to replace the valve block.

just a thought you need to look at the airline completely not just at the ends look under the battery both lines run there and if you have an unsealed battery you may have battery acid dripping on them - this happened to me and had to cut out a bit of the airline and insert a bit might be worth a look

rite people hae found the leak under the tray thanks for that now my question is where can i buy pipe fittings to repair it? i brought a manua inflation device a while back but never fitted it and just seem to use push fit conections similar to speedfit plumbing ones so hoping i can just buy a couple of sockets and cutout the bad piece of pipe and replace any suggestions on where to buy will check ebay now
