I've been reading about the bad heaters in defenders and ive seen a few people say to adjust the cables up, so I want to give that a try, can anyone tell me where the cables are so I can adjust them? Also the fan won't turn off any ideas what that could be? It's a 84 with a 300tdi conversion, and it's got a new matrix in! The temp gauge doesn't quite get upto halfway either!
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Cheers Dan

When you are in the engine bay, with the fan on, feel around the box for any air leaks as the heat is supposed to go inside the cab not the engine compartment. Mine had huge gaps around the pipes allowing the meagre hot air to escape before warming my tootsies. I used some foam to seal the gaps and it has made a big difference. Also changed the thermostat to make sure that the engine was at proper temperature. If it wasn't for the big gaps around the doors it would be too warm! I'm working on that now. New seals ordered.

Thanks a lot bud I'll check that bit out later! Sorted the adjustment out on the heater and its alot better already, there is a gap where the pipes go into the box so I'll try and fill that later aswell!
Does any body now what the little tube looking thing is at the side of the heater box as 2 wires on it?
Regards Dan

That is a rheostat or also known as a variable resistor, it changes the resistance to the fan motor, hence changing the speed of fan.

So having two wire just soldered on is probably the reason the switch dosent work lol probs just bypassed I'm guessing!
