morning all. I am almost certain i will get shot down for this but i'm new to this game. i did search but was unsure.

anyhow i have a d-reg 90 with a 200tdi retro fitted in. I am pretty sure you will tell me what i expect, but is any, and i mean any, hot air supposed to come from the heaters when you put them on? Just wondering if the guy who fitted the 200tdi made a silly mistake or if this is normal. turning the lever hot to cold makes no difference at all.

Steve

To be honest there pretty nonexistant really, but since mines been flushed its actually pretty good, although for the past few years it hadnt done anything :)

mine works a treat. get someone to move the hot/cold lever about and see if the lever under the bonnet (nearside, on bulkhead) moves.

Also, then check that the pipes from the back of the engine to the heater box (same black box as above) are actually connected.

Then report back :D

Theres no reason why a LR heater needs to be crap.

nice one, i will check that out tonight.

also whilst i'm asking questions....

The LR has power steering which the previous owner fitted too. Yesterday the steering suddenly feels 'wobbly' as in i can move the steering wheel a good 1/4 turn before it does anything. previously it was much better. the shaft going into the steering box appears to turn a 1/4 turn or so without the arm leaving the steering box moving. i've done a search and i think the steering box just needs adjusting. does this sound about right? the fluid is right on minimum so i will top it up but i don't think it would create this loseness. like i say it is definetly inside the box it is happening, not bushes outside etc. could it be air in the system which could do this?

cheers for the help and advice.

Steve

sounds to me like your box is giving up - the adjustment on them is to take up with wear that happens slowly with age, if its gone suddenly sound slike something has broken. Try adjusting it, loosen the locknut on the top and turn the screw in a bit - jack the whole front axle up while you are doing this, and turn the steering from lock to lock, no engine. should be smooth with no tight bits.

all sorted the brake cable type cable had split on the outer sleeve so were not moving the little lever. can these be replaced with bike brake cable or are they a specific part? cheers

Get yourself a good jacket for the winter and open the windows or front flaps when its warm any other advice is miss leading

Ye probably can replace it with bike outer cable as long as ye use the solid inner. Ye might stuggle a bit gettin' the inner through tho' as it'll have a kink on either end ;)

Mine worked a treat till the fan went tits up. Anyone got a spare fan please?
i got a spare heater box,..... don't know how good it is,..... but you are welcome to try.....:)

as for the heater prob,.... if it ain't the cable then there's always the chance that some poor sucker has stuck radweld in the system to get them home when the radiator has had enuff and it has blocked the matrix,......had this happen to me..failing that there could be an airlock in the system as the matrix is just a little above the rest of water system,.....try taking the pipes off your heater box one at a time and see if you get water flowing,......that way you should also be able to see if there is a blockage in the heater matrix. hope this helps.

Sure youve fixed it by now but i had exactly the same problem. Thought the thermostat might be the trouble. Got a new one and found that there wasn't one to replace! Brilliant!
Works fine now
