Heater upgrade

Dont forget guys...your coolant hast to be hot for any heater to work.

If your engine is not getting upto its proper temp no matter how much air is going through your heater it wont help.

Lack of heat may be a problem but until I get some air blowing through, I won't really know. It's raining now so it'll have to wait another day or two.

Both mine came from ebay, I brought the black one first, its made by Volvo Penta and the quality is obvious. I thought if one is good then two must be better, the second grey one was similar to all the generic ones you see on ebay like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Seaflo-in-Line-Bilge-Air-Blower-130cfm-Boat-Black-Ventilation-12v-2-5amp-L3l1/676977437?iid=322930682984&_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIM.MBE&ao=2&asc=49925&meid=6a43620189884b4b9381f2c6f87b2df2&pid=100623&rk=4&rkt=4&sd=282400224490&itm=322930682984&_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1

Both fans claim similar flow rates but the Volvo one is more powerful than the grey one and while having two in series gives a useful increase in flow I dont think you can just add the flows together and expect that as your output.

One other thing, I dont have a standard Series 3 lower dash / heater box, I made my own which allows a lot more air to flow, it has seven large outlets five of which can be throttled plus another two smaller outlets for side window demist.

Both units had the same type of flange fitting so I guess its some kind of marine standard. I had to make an adapter to allow the fan to directly mount to the heater unit then I just coupled it all up with flexible ducting and ran the inlet pipe to the front for a fresh air supply.

now that is a heater upgrade, very impressive

I never understood why LR didn't copy Citroen, their Traction Avant had the simplest heater - a tube from behind the rad to a hole in the dash with a bung.

No flap req...fan still work fine if req...most of the time its not req...the ram air supply the air.

The cowl on the side heater inlet wont work...it would need to stick out over 9ins to get in any airflow...maybe more....tried it.

I do fancy fitting a decent brushless motor into a standard series blower. See if a few thousand rpm makes any difference.
It would take an age to balance the fin wheel to postpone self destruction.
May be one day when everything else is sorted.

Made a fan casing to fit a LDV van fan gives a good flow but 4 years on have not got around to fitting it as my double Matrix and original fan are working well.

I've still not managed to get out and have a crack at it. Why is it that when there is a job to do on the landie, it is either raining or some other obstacle is put in your way. I'm having to babysit my Grandson this week cos it's school holidays AGAIN. Whenever the wife wants me to do some job I'm not keen on, there are never any such obstacles.

Park in range of wifi and get a fan heater - my son (now 8) was 4 when I did the rewire and he used to come and sit in the back while I wired the dash - he'd watch Lego videos and when people walked by I could pretend I was talking to him not myself. best bit was I've lived here close on 30 years and only kinew a handful of neighbours, but everyone stopped to chat and ask about the progress, same happend when i rebuilt the engine. OK some where probably checking for child labour and others concenred about my mental health, but now its fixed they still stop and say hello.
