heater matrix

Hi chaps

Recently ive just removed my dashboardto get access to the matrix heater. ive replaced the heater matrix and replaced the 0 rings aswell.
Ive now put the dashboard back together apart from the odd parts.
Last night i put a new battery in and started her up and discovered that the top metal hose has a leak, however the allen key bolt is fully tight. wondering if someone could give me some advice on where ive goone wrong.

When you removed the pipes you should have noticed there is a cut out in them. This cutout MUST be engaged correctly in housing it goes into or you will have a leak. Just back off screw and twist pipe either way until it is engaged on peg then push in properly, tighten screw.

i will defiantly give that a try after work thanks wammers.
Do you know the size of the bolt thread type etc just wanna get a stainless bolt as mine seen better days lol

Off hand not a clue, around M5 i would guess.

Just a quick message ive managed to undo the bolts and undo the hose does the left hand hose as u look into the engine go to the top of the matrix heater and then the right hand hose fit at the bottom and go into the engine block. Hope this makes sense

R/H pipe hose goes to back of head. L/H pipe hose connects to pipe from front of engine T'd to hose from header tank. R/H goes to bottom of matrix L/H to top.

Cheers wammer now the difficult bit of screwing the hex bolt

M5 X 30mm long.....Make sure it's threaded all the way up (Setscrew).

Hiya John.

Screw is threaded all the way to the head.
Bolt has an unthreaded shaft portion with a screw thread at the end.
Set screw (function) is for preventing rotation or other movement so may be a Grub screw or a Cap screw (for example). Merkans call grub screws set screws. Also call split pins Cotter pins, which they aren't.

Nuts also have various descriptions....Hexagon, Castillated, half, Nyloc, Brazil, Walnut,Pecan and Hazel to name a few. Washers come in various types...Fan Disc, spring, Dish, front loading, top loading and Pot.

Just a massive thankyou for all your help she now up and running with no leaks whoop whoop. Since firing her up ive noticed srs symbol on the dash??

Did you switch ignition on with yellow SRS plug unplugged from instrument cluster or passenger bag not plugged in? Indeed did you remember to plug them in at all?

Then there's those triple square hex head bolts that hold the brake calipers on that are done up ludicrously FT...

Do you mean twelve point bihex bolts? Proper tools work wonders. Cheap ****e fails more often than not.

The twelve point bihex it turned out did the job; the original bolt geometry on mine (factory bolt I suppose, maybe?) was "triple square" (so my *real* guru tells me) which is apparently a bit pointier at the corners. - bihex socket fits OK but not perfectly and did the job. New bolt is true bihex and an actual fit in the socket......
Triple square female sockets are made of special unobtanium.

I have 2 types of 12 point sockets. Some are slightly rounded and the others are sharper and more slotty, if that makes any sense? If you look down the end they're definitely different. The more rounded ones fitted the caliper bolts best.

Hey Owen 88 just finished my matrix had it leak twice , the second time I looked with a mirror from behind the the heater pipes and could tell they were not seating properly , could swear the 1st 2 times it was in right as u know hard to see back there. The pipes will be centered in the hold bracket and your good to go.
