Doh! I have the 300TDi and there are two matrix available!

I've gone and picked up the wrong one (my fault for not checking properly) i.e. the first one rather than the second one. Does anyone know if they are compatible other than the direction of the inlet and outlet..... If I can't change the matrix it would be cheaper to get new water pipes!

Looking at the pictures I don't think it will thought I would check.

Also does anyone know if you can change the matrix by removing the bonnet and undoing the screws holding the matrix in place avoiding removing the whole heater box from the car.

Thanks.

You can adapt, however for the cost of the correct one I would suggest you purchase the correct one. Really simple to fit!

Pop incorrect one on eBay or on here. :)

Remove the whole, it's an ideal time to give it a good clean and protect the bulkhead.

I'm hoping that they will still swap it but if they don't it might be useful when I get a ebarspatcher hydronics heater sometime next year.

Hi. The 300tdi one is taller and will not fit the earlier matrix boxes, we tried, but they may swap the other way. Although there will be a gap at the bottom and the matrix will hang on the pipes which may not be good. I believe there are another 1 or 2 versions available for the earlier boxes with different pipe arrangements. Yes you can change them in situ, just make sure it is well protected from vibration damage. As long as the one you bought is undamaged it should be possible to swap for the one you need. Oh and be careful when filling the coolant system afterwards as they are prone to getting air locks in them. Fill from the highest point and run until you get hot air out of the hot air ducts and even then be prepared for it to suddenly go cold at which point loosen the pipes off and carefully let the air out with the engine running.

Thanks. If they don't let me return this one I think I will keep it and just buy the right one then make use of this later. It's not as if it was expensive anyway.

Thanks everyone...
