Noticed red water dripping from the heater vent in the drivers side footwell this morning. I guess this is the famous o rings that I keep hearing about.

Is it really a diy job and if so how long can I expect it to take?

Is it worth doing anything elsewhile the dash is all in bits?

Do they just carry on dripping indefinitely or do they tend to suddenly let go?

I thought these had already been done as I noticed the stained carpet when I bought it (but it was dry and looked like an old leak) - something else the seller fibbed about presumably!

Yeah, I've had a look there, but there seem to be a large variety of methods for replacing them. Hard to tell which is the easiest - they all look a bit of a nightmare.

Presumably it would be worth changing the blend motors while it's all out?

If the blends aint broke don't fix them!!!
Suggest you get a stainless M5 X 30mm long socket cap screw to replace the clamp screw for the pipe saddle clamp and use a ball ended 4mm allen key to tighten it. It's a lot easier to get to than with a pozidrive screwdriver and less chance of damaging the head as well.

If your blend motors are working leave well them alone, you can replace the 'O' rings by removing the transmission tunnel side covers, centre console, radio and the covers above the pedals . Takes about 4 hours, having done it once, having someone on hand to help while replacing the 'O'rings to hold the screw in place and make tea is a bonus...

Using the guide, I did mine in a couple of hours. The hardest part was cutting the vent duct, but after I got fed up with my bread knife and went a bought a dryway padsaw I was through in a jiffy. The O rings are nothing special, standard of the shelf items that I allready had in part of a kit - from memory I think they where 22 dia by 2.5. Be gentle doing the screw back up, its easy to give it to much and O rings dont need to be tight to seal as long as the seats are clean.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll have to add it to my list of things to do.

List is currently:

replace cracked exhaust manifold
replace airbags
work out why nothing heated seems to work
fix the cruise control (doesn't seem to be the pipes)
fix air con
heater o rings

Still quite a short list!!
