Hi folks i'm fairly new on here and wonder if anyone can help...
My first winter with a Freelander 1 (2006 TD4) with the 'Winter Pack'...also I live in Norway so it's getting abit brass monkeys....

and yes the heater blower seems to have failed....it started working intermittently a week ago (working on pos 4)...but went off when changed switch position....then wouldnt work on pos 4 either...but would then start again some time later....This behavour was repeated in different switch positions....The last two days it has'nt started at all.....

The temperature here is about -10 deg c at the moment....any ideas, does cold affect these vehicles...or is this electrical gremlins...??

Vic's probably right. On most vehicles I've come across the heater resistors are staged to provide ever-decreasing resistance for positions 1, 2 and 3. Position 4 has no resistance so the motor goes at full speed. So if the resistor pack is blown the blower motor will only work at full speed.

Where the pack is located on a Freelander, I know not, but they are usually positioned low down and screwed into the in the blower ducting under the dash so that there's some airflow over the pack to cool it and stop the resistors overheating. It's usually fairly accessible.

For a right hand drive check the area under the dash near to clutch or footrest if auto, there is a connection in the loom that can get dislodged with your foot and may need re-seating.
For left hand drive I'm not sure if if this connector is still in the right footwell or if it is reversed.

Seem to recall one member had a connector to the heater motor work loose and all settings became intermittent. Try looking at that that before digging out the resistor pack.
Somewhere down in the foot well just above where you rest your foot.

Well that was a turn-up.....problem turned out to be with the ingnition switch...it had gone abit iffy and caused a short in the fuse. The resistor pack seems okay at the present. Ignition switch/wheel lock sorted.
I checked further on the site and it seems this is another reasonably common occurance.

All good experience, getting to know the foibles of an unfamilier vehicle.....fun in the snow too - 'ere -17 deg c at the moment, so am glad of the heater. Thanks again lads info invaluable. Cheers

what good would that do ?
You may have followed the thread by Pardec, TD4 Non-starter.
A lot of members have spent time in trying to help this guy and I'm sure they would all like to know the outcome. Its called collective experience where those of us who care might be able to help someone else in the future. If you cant see that knowing how the problem was fixed is of use then we need not bother!
