Heated windscreen?

Does anyone know if my 51 plate Freelander TD4 ES-X station wagon is likely to have the wiring for a heated windscreen?

I have a crack in my windscreen so I've arranged for it to be replaced and have ordered a heated one. If it doesn't have the wiring, will this be a problem or will the connections on the heated windscreen just be redundant?

Hi Rich.

How much are you paying for the heated screen and from where? I'd be interested in this also as my windscreen is cracked and I'd like to replace with a heated one.

If you have fully comp insurance it will usually be covered. Though, you will often have to pay an excess. My excess is £90 with Adrian Flux. Check your policy documents though because some (Adrian Flux for certain) require you to organise it via your insurance company unless you're willing to pay a higher excess.

I'll dig out the policy & take a look. I'm with the AA for my insurance so no doubt they will squirm out/have a huge excess.

Wouldn't have thought the insurance company would pay for a screen better/different than the original?

from what i remember the insurance or window company ask you what is fitted when you call for replacement, if you tell them its heated they will bring a heated version.

not a usual question when getting quotes/cover

If its not there you could always take the feed from the back heated window or use the same rear heater switch to supply both front and back screen heaters. Just a thought.....

I would advise against this. It may cause too high a current draw for the circuit for the rear demister, however, making a new loom and wiring it in yourself, if your good with electrics, will be fine.

Certainly wire it separately. The rear window stays on for about 10 minutes?? and front ones normally stay on for about one or two. Leaving it on longer would cause something to burn out - then what would the insurance say!

Was it an optional extra for the model? If so then the wiring should be there. You will have to put relay, switch and fuse in.

Heated windscreen?
