I thought I'd open this as it might be useful to others, and I still need a llittle guidance if possible.

The drivers side of my heated windscreen is not working.

Help from Singovel -

"The heated screeen does indeed have 2 fuses.

They are in the little supplementary fuse box just beside the engine compartment fuse box. Page 223 of the owners handbook".

I located the supplimental fuse box, however, both 30a fuses are intact, so I need to look further.

Can someone point me to where the connections to the windshield are, so I can check out the supply ?

Many thanks...........ebt

Hi, Heated Windscreen Relay - have you checked that ?

Actually no. I made the assumption that it would have been a single pole relay using the same switching point to provide the source voltage to both fuses.

Looking at the Haynes Manual (I know, I know, probably crap) it shows indeed that the output (pin 87) is commoned to both fuses ! However, I will take a look at it if I can find it. Any ideas where it is please ? Would it be right next door to the supplemental fuse box that carries the heated windscreen fuses

Thanks in advance.........ebt

it will have a relay with double pole out 87 and 87a is it possible your windscreen has been replace at some point and has not been reconected properly which is under the scutching below the windscreen

Hmm, interesting. I did say the Haynes may have been crap. It shoes a single pole relay with just pin 87 as the sole o/p but a common feed (from 87) to both fuses.

I very much doubt whether the windscreen has been out and I seem to remember that both sides worked when I first got it (10 weeks ago) so I do suspect a fuse/relayt fault. Is the relay next door to the small fuse box, do you know ?................ebt

According to Haynes P12.20 its inside the electrical box / passenger side rear corner of the engine bay...if theres more than one in there I dont know which one it would be though ..I agree with you, Haynes is pretty crap with this info...someone else might know on here though...good luck.

Thanks, just seen that. I'll check it out tomoz.....ebt

this might help..,,

i seem to recall that the connections are under the plenum in the corners...just spade connectors hanging in mid-air so can get corroded..

Thanks markyzs180. The diag seems to confirm that it's a single pole relay with a commoned output to the 2 fuses for each side. As menioned earlier, the fuses are sound so I need to check supply voltage at the screen.

Do you happen to know if there is easy access to the coonections via the "plenums" ?

Cheers..........ebt

hmmm... was thinking about this today and got a feeling i might be getting mixed up with a p38 range rover!

the electrical connections list only states that the conection is behind the fascia and shows a pic sitting from the drivers seat. haynes doesn't mention it and raves instructions for cutting out the windscreen doesn't either!

to get the plenum off its wiper arms off, then take out the five or six push clips along the plenum and it then comes off in two parts... worth taking off anyway to have a cleanout in there as it will be full of gunk n leaves n stuff!

those little "clips" get a very small screw driver and punch the middle and then you can just pull them out and collect the middles as you get in there if you do not do it this way you will need new ones

Trying to fix the same fault on our 54 plate Freelander but have new problem, whilst removing the supplementary fuse box cover it slipped out of my fingers. Incredibly it managed to fall amongst the hoses and drop down inside the engine never to be seen again!

Does anyone have the part number so I can get another?

OK, a bit further on. Still not function on drivers side. Metered both fuse inputs and have a solid 14.1v on both fuses. (Engine has to run so feed is direct from alternator, at a guess).

Both fuses are intact (and have in fact swapped them), to no avail.

SO, I now need to check the supply is getting to the drivers side screen connection.

Photos below show what I "believe" to be the 2 feeds. Feeling through each shroud, i t seems 2 wires are in each, must be a feed and a ground ?

Anyone care to confirm the above at all.

Third photo shows the plenum cover. Can someone please tell me how to release the (arrowed) clips ?

Many thanks...........ebt

The secret in removing those 4 plastic clips is to use a small self tapping screw.

Just screw it in a turn or so and then pull upwards and the inner part of the 'Scrivet' comes out - the outer bit then lifts off easily.

You also need to take out the front row of 12 push-fit clips that hold down the cowl panel (plenum) and the bonnet sealing rubber?

Singvogel.

The two wires you see on each end are indeed the supplies for the windscreen.
With them disconnected, check the resistance of the screen on both sides and compare, they should be roughly the same.
My heated screen hasn't worked for a couple of years now, I think I have a connection problem on the lower inside of the screen where the wires attach, on both sides..can't see under there to see the connections
