Anyone know of or got experience of fitting a heat exchanger for hot water / shower onto the TD5 engine.
Seen a few on the market but either for TDi or the Bushranger that does not seem specifically for any car so I am not sure about fitting.

Thanks gents

Where are you going where you will be using it? I have a 12v ring automotive shower it's fantastic.

Heat exchangers are a bit of a dark art. You could connect a simple one inline with your heater pipes. You would also need a temp valve/regulator to prevent 90c water coming out.

A far simpler method is as above, or, install a water system (tank, 12v flojet pump etc) and run a couple of T pieces with levers/ball valves. You can then draw water from a jerry can and output via a separate hose (in normal use it would be water tank and tap). you can then heat the water in the can and output via a shower head.

We have done this on our trailer, works well. Using a kelly kettle we can sufficiently heat water in a 20L can to shower 4 adults. Did this in Mongolia last month.

In all honesty though, it is a faff. We have used the shower 4-5 times in 7 months. The water tank and water filter however have been a godsend.

I have 1 of these Kampa Geysers as well, run off 12v cigarette lighter socket to power pump and gas for heating the water...swing out tap & shower attachment ...gets pretty hot for standard washing up & short showers but does go through water quite quickly...

wouldnt be without it for camping trips and doesnt take up too much room either !

You can get a heat exchanger that you plumb into the heater pipes on your truck, then the shower pipes attach and the circulating water in your motor heats the water for your shower its good to set up a valve to circulate the water for a hot shower.
The trouble is I can only find these heat exchangers in either Australia or South Africa , there about £65 but every time I purchase something from the US etc. I end up paying nearly double with the import expenses. so if your interested maybe we can get a job lot going.

i'm imagining getting up in the morning, you, doris.. maybe some kids in the landy. You get into the front and turn the engine on to heat the water.

15 mins go by, doris is sick of the exhaust fumes and noise.. you watch the fuel gauge and see the engine isn't even warm yet as it's just idling. So you rev it more.... ahhh bliss of a warmish shower :D

or plug in a 12v leccy shower and off you go. you can even stick on a dual bat setup if you want. :D :D
