My lovely Freelander 2001 TD4.

Mid box and rear silencer looking to be replaced.

My 4x4 garage, a fairly honest chap, reckons the mid-box is nearly £700 alone...

..the smelling salts woke me up with a jolt.

Can anyone enlighten me, what the heck actually is in that mid box? (along with the gold sovereigns), I can't figure why this exhaust has to be so expensive.

Looks like I may go for bespoke stainless if I have to, anyone know any fabricator/fitters near Lancashire?

Looks like somebody has put the decimal point in the wrong place!!

I got the whole system for under £100 next day delivery included, on eBay. :D
Without the cat bit, of course.

The cat bit and middle box would've been around £300 but who needs a cat on a diesel??

If your garage-guy re-confirms the price you mention, and you can't fit it yourself, you really need to shop around - no way the price he quotes.

mid section includes the cat and yes at LR prices he is not far wrong but you should be ably to get both sections for 300. if you shop around.

if you fit a cat bypass from next year it is a mot fail as if a cat was fitted as factory fit it has to have a cat.

Sorry - but that only applies to spark ignition / petrol vehicles, that require to have a full emissions test. Compression Ignition / Diesels have only a smoke test.

I have confirmed this with VOSA by email personally, as several folks, including some testers, and the press, have misinterpreted the Inspection Manual.

had both bits fitted couple of weeks back, best price i could get it down here was£420.did search fleebay best one on offer then was £370 delivered.hope it helps'good luck, tim.
