One tip regarding those old fashioned bullet connector ganging sockets, or even single bullet connector sockets. Before assembling the connections in these sockets, I always try to fill the socket with a squirt of silicone grease straight from the tube.
It can make things a bit messy to hold, but for those connectors just behind the front grille, it sure keeps the water out.
