I appear to have a problem with my headlights. Sometimes my n/s dipped beam won't come on at all, but will occasionally come on whilst I'm driving. When I do manage to get both lights on at the same time and go onto high beam from dipped, the lights go out for a split second before the high beam appears.

Can one of you good people tell me if this is likely to be a relay problem and if so where would I be likely to find the relay on a Discovery 300Tdi?

Or is it likely to be something as simple as a faulty 3 pin plug that attaches to the back of the bulb?

Any imput gratefully received!

i had a similar problem and it turned out to be the switch. if u want to test it, take out the switch, shud be able to unplug it. then find which wires to wot by lookin at the switch. if blue and brown are for lights not working then just bypass the switch with a piece of wire. if lights come on then heres ur problem.

I have now established that the light switch is the offending part. I have also just managed to pick up a light/wiper switch on Ebay, but can someone tell me if it is an easy task to replace them?

I'm no mechanic or electrician, but will have a go myself if the job is easy enough to tackle.

Had exactly the same prob on my old disco. It was the 3 pin connectors at the bulb. They keep coming loose and are not very good quality. Try them before you replace the switch, just jiggling them about used to sort mine out temporarily. Also check the earth connections.

Thanks Hughesy. Thanks for the reply.

I did infact change the three pin socket on the offending bulb and for a time I thought I'd cracked it, until 2 nights ago that is. I switched my headlights on, but they didn't come on if you get my drift. Neither did the dashboard lights. I sat and played around with the tip of the lights switch on the steering column and hey presto all the lights sprang into action. I continued to sit and play with the switch and without actually turning the lights off they all went out anyway and a little bit more playing around brought them back on again and so on, and so on.

So I feel it must be the switch that is at fault and was just wondering how easy it is to put a new set of switches in.
