I have recently noticed that nothing happens when I try to "flash" my headlights. Dim beam and main beam work ok but when I pull the stalk towards me, nothing happens. Is the stalk dead, or is there something else I should check before shelling out the folding stuff?

Is the stalk dead
Well how would anybody via the internet know this or not???:confused::confused: :p:p

Seriously, the easiest thing to do is check yourself. Get a simple circuit tester, you know the screwdriver looking thing with a bulb in and wire coming out of the handle (when you place one end on a + and the other on a - it'll light up).

Take the steering column cowl off and check the wires on the stalk. Earth the wire end of the tester and turn the lights on mainbeam, as you know these work, you want start by finding the wire that lights up with them on and doesn't with them off. Now check for the headlight flash.

Based on what you find here will tell you where to investigate next.

The switch contacts probably need filed and possibly bent over a little.

Thanks a lot. This makes sense. I changed the cowl a couple of weeks ago and must have probably bent the contacts.

It's an open switch so should be simple enough to pull it out and have a look if the contacts are ...er... contacting ;)

Also, even if they appear to be touching, they might not actually make a good electrical contact.
