Some years ago I fitted halogens to my 110, they were fantastic. I recently
replaced them for a new set as the reflectors were corroded and wouldn't
pass the MOT, now they are bloody crap just like the original sealed beams!
(Yes, the volts are ok as are all connections) I can't remember the make of
the original halogens I fitted, but the ones fitted at the moment are wipac
I think.
I remember seeing an ad in a LRO comic a year or so ago for new headlamps
that weren't cheap but supposedly the best alternative to HID. Problem is,
I've spent 2 hours googling and can't find any useful info.
Can anyone help please? Either with the info on these fancy lamps or a known
good alternative other than HID.

I bought some 'ring' ones to replace my sealed beams and they were a
definate improvement over those. They were only the cheap ones too
(around £20 the pair)

I have a pair of Wipac Quadoptics on my RRC. There are two types: one
with a bulb shield in front of the bulb, possibly for those (rare?)
people who use tungsten bulbs without the black cap found on halogen
bulbs. the other doesn't have the shield (the ones I have). Both have
UV resistant plastic lenses and reflectors and are a fantastic
improvement over the originals. Vehicle Wiring Products sell a bolt on
Quadoptic, so you could fit a second pair of dip beam units! Off road
use only officer!!!

I've got Philips premium bulbs (vision plus, I think) which claim 50%
brighter, they seem to make a nice light, at standard wattage, too.

Osram silver star are something similar.

I think my Ring ones mite be a bit poor quality as they've only been in a
couple of months and the silver is just starting to dissapear off the
reflector.
Made in India but they were very cheap so I might get another 2 sets for
spare.

Yes, I have them on my 130 and, together with higher temperature bulbs, do
make a noticeable difference. They are easier to wipe clean as well. I've
had them in over a year now and the reflectors are still pristine.

Thanks for that Malcolm, I'll get a pair on order then, I think. When you
say a noticeable difference, against what? Original sealed beams or other
halogens?

Better than the Wipac Quadoptics I have on the 101. They seem to have a
sharper cut-off.
