Hi all,
I have a problem with my headlights dipped beam not working. Its not the bulbs. Its been a bit tempermental ever since I got the landy, but now they seem to have stopped altogether. Now the Main beams seem to work OK.
- I've measured the voltage going to the fuses and I get nothing. I get voltage to the sidelights.
- I've measured the voltage coming from the switch and this seems to work.
- i've run a bypass wire from the side light fuse to the dipped fuse and my lights turn on when I switch the side lights on.

So I believe that there is either a dodgy wire running to the Dim/Dip unit or it might be the dim/dip unit itself.

My question is where is the Dim/Dip unit located?

Cheers.
Dan.

actually thinking about it it could be a stork issue as well.
will have to wiggle about with that see if anything comes on.

the stalks the most likely. the wire breaks inside the switch,
strip the cowl off. take the stalk unit off, open it up and repair the wire.
10 minute job tops

I've traces it through and it looks most likely a stalk unit issue. On closer inspection the thing looks fried. I've been wondering what that burning smell was the last couple of weeks.
I have quick fix in place, but I'll probably by a used unit sometime soon.

Cheers.
Dan.

As you've smelt some burning check your earths to the light's, we had a similar prob recently with dip & it turned out a knackered earth leading to the headlight was causing our problems.

Both my dips failed on the same day - Friday - on the way back from Battenberg's place.

TD5 Disco .... wiring ..... AAAAARRGGGHHHHHHhhhhhhhhh !

Had an inspiration and checked the bulbs. Both Tesla bulbs, both blown!

Slapped in two H7 spares.

CARAMBA!

Had this whilst driving home on a motorway, dipp0ed headlights just went out leaving only main. Fortunately I have front fogs so used those to get me home. Checked the fuses both in tact so checked at the switch. When I removed the cowl I found the stalk switch has three wires external to the switch one of which was broken. Disconnected the battery and re soldered the wire, re connected the battery and presto dip beams restored. There was another down side, when the wire broke it must have caused a surge that fed bake throught the dim do unit and destroyed it.
