My td5 110 hardtop seems to be producing to much pressure in the cooling system . Its never over heated yet but the gauge could be knackerd it always runs just shy of centre when warmed up. I have just fitted a new thermostat and pump (the pump was leaking caused by the high presure I think) but the presure still forces the coolant out the filler cap if I open it when the engine is warm. Any suggestions ?

The coolant system will be pressurised to about 13 PSI anyway - they are designed to be.

Release the pressure when the engine is cold. Then start it, run for a minute or two, not long enough to get it hot, then open the cap. If it is repressuries, you have an issue. Othewise, this is normal.

It's meant to run under pressure, never seen a head gasket cause a water pump to leak.

The header cap will release any pressure under normal conditions so if it's ok with the cap on leave it at the minute, and keep an eye on the temp.

I'l second that.

Thanks for the advice Ive tried running the engine for 2 minutes and when I took off the cap no pressure in there what so ever. The temp has always been spot on even with a broken thermostat which is why I suspect the gauge is not working correctly

Sorry its taken so long to reply wife was stuck on the computer a bit like the thermostat which was stuck closed
