head gasket?

hi all.checked oil today,first time in about 2 weeks (slapped wrists)and there is more oil showing on dipstick than before.it is showing a good 10 mil above max.it does not look creamy or mucky.the header tank has lost about 10 mil of water in roughly 10 months since last service.have i got a major problem?many thanks in advance.....

what engine?
td5? could well be fuel in the engine

You sure you didn't overfill it and been running on high level?
How much oil did you last put in and what was the level before hand?
On most cars it takes approx 1L to go from min to max, not sure how much it is for the disco

hi.i havent put a drop of oil in since full service 10 months ago,but level has increased.

check your lift pump !!
sounds like there is diesel contaminating your sump

you can normally see the fuel in the engine oil when you dip it...you could have a cracked head

diesel is an oil so not so easy to spot espically over 10 months

it may sound like a daft question,but how do i check it ,also will i do any damage if i use it before i can get it to the stealers?cheers.

or you could just have leaking injector seals and washers, easy and cheap to rectify and a common problem on td5's, best change oil asap as the car can self destruct though diesel diluting the engine oil

dont you know a good indy?

it might not do more damage but it wont get better IMO

if i had a cracked head,wouldnt i be losing a significant amount of water?

depends where the crack is (if you had one)

Best just to change your oil mate to prevent potential damage to the bottom end.
Then investigate over the next few days/weeks.
As previous poster says could be a number of things.
