Hi all,
does anyone have any recommendations for garages in Edinburgh I've tried a couple that are listed on here and are reluctant to do head gasket replacement even though they are land rover specialists, any ideas or recommendations would be appreciated it's a 1.8 k series petrol
If not anyone recommend where to buy crankshaft locking tool many thanks

Just done mine, have a read of this thread and come back with any questions.
Best to do it yourself, generally garages don't have the detailed knowledge and mine had been fitted with a Multi-Layer gasket which was quite wrong for the liner heights on the engine.
Also, the 'garage' - I have a receipt for works from a PO - used washers under the old head bolts, well some of them anyway !!
Not a difficult job, do the cam belt as well and you are good for another 50k at least !

Thanks for getting back to me was thinking of doing it myself read a few details on here would you suggest getting the multi layered gasket the new upgraded 1 or stick to genuine freelander parts no oil in coolant just exhaust gasses in coolant resiviour was going to change water pump and cam belt at same time

The rule on this forum which is well proven by many is that if the liners are 3 thou or above the block then a ML is o.k.

For level or irregular level liners use the elastomer gasket known as the BW750 .
For engines the age of ours the elastomer seems to be more forgiving, mine has done a thousand miles now and all good.
Replace the stretch bolts. I used DMGRS for all the bits. https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/
They also have advice lines and are very helpful.
I didn't lock the crank btw ! Just found the 'safe' spot and didn't turn it when changing belt !!

Mine, like yours was exhaust in coolant but no milky mess, caught it in time.

Thanks that's really helpful and thanks for the link I've had a good read through your thread going to strip down and have a look at the damage before I order parts in the off chance there's sealent been used and see what knick the heads in its cars only done 10700 not sure if its had head gasket done recently changed exhaust manifold and inlet manifold gaskets so at least bolts won't be too hard to get off
