I am Richard and new to the LR Zone

I have just completed a full Head Gasket repair on a LR Freelander 1.8i

If you are intending to do this let me know and I can offer some advice - in particular gasket type, tools needed and sequence of events.

I have made my own tools for the HG repair - one for locking the crankshaft and one for locking the twin cam spiggots. Happy to loan to any member - but must collect from Hampshire area.

On my HG repair I also serviced the petrol fuel injectors, serviced the alternator and starter motor. The head itself was just cleaned up - as was the piston heads and I can give some good tips on the best way to do this.

I am not a mechanic at heart (an academic actually) but I managed to do it with some help from friends in my classic car club - it took me 8 weeks ! but this was just because I worked in the evenings and did just one small thing each night - for example remove the battery tray, or remove the inlet manifold. By not rushing it I enjoyed the whole exercise and the car runs very well now. I have some pictures which I am willing to share. Not sure how to display them here.

I am sure there are many threads on HG repair but this is intended for the armature mechanic who has never done the repair before.

kind regards

Richard
