Replaced head gasket on 300tdi.
Followed the Haynes manual except numbering the valve caps.
Will check valve clearance but engine is a non starter at the moment.
Loads of smoke though.
Should No1 piston be at tdc for hg replacement?

Hi, never done a disco before but you should get all the marks on the various pulleys lined up... crankshaft, camshaft and fuel pump. Its possible to get the crankshaft 180 degrees out but it sounds to me like either the pump of camshaft are a notch out..good luck

Its a push rod type engine isn't it, it shouldn't matter what position the cam or crank is in!!!!

As for it not starting and smoking lots.........

Il have a think on that one!!!
