hi just had my freelander td4 back after a new clutch and the hdc warning lamps comming on sporadically turn the engine off for a while and the warning lamp goes off wondering if somethings been disturbed when the gearbox was out

check wiring connections to the hdc switch ..
and also the brake-light switch ..

hdc + tc lights often indicates that the brake light switch is failing ..

ok ill check that but why the brake lights affect the hdc light

'cause the brake-light switch is connected to both the brake-lights ..
and to hdc/tc part of the controlling computer ..

i.e. the switch has three wires ..
1 .. is a 12v supply feed
2 .. goes via the brake-lights to earth
3 .. goes to the computer box
( diagram in manual is downstairs .. can't remember if box is the egine 'ecu'
( or another black-box computing thingy .. as be another in the cab area

also where is the hdc switch located or do you mean on the gear selector
i mean the hdc switch which is either on the gear-selector itself
or down by the gear selector gaiter on the .. er .. mounting ring thing ?

be an offhand suggestion ..
as i'm not sure what could be disturbed when a clutch change is done ..
i.e. what wiring or plug/socket connections ..

ok i did a quick test on the engine management and came back no fault codes and none pending so ill check thhe brake lights when i get the hdc fault again if i havent got break lights then its the break light switch ill check the switch on the leaver tomorrow with a multimeter maybe a simple fix i just thought it was all fine till i had the clutch done, just an odd one i want clear up

thanks guys this is all new to me as i am a series 3 man , not had a landrover for a long while so decided on a freelander 4x4 car lol any way up to now the lights warning lights been off and on like a cheap tarts draws, no faults on the vehicles computer, the gearbox was off for a new clutch so i suspect something was disturbed the guy at the garage said, Its got no reversing light switch mate ! so the reversing lights wont work , they work fine that comment threw alarm bells ringing ill split the switch on the gear stick after ive checked the switch on the gear box for first gear if some one would kindly tell me the location thanks mike
