Afternoon all, so I’ve had the RR Sport (2008, TDV6, 2.7) for just over two months and so far it’s had the ERG valves and suspension compressor replaced.

I’ve just done a long run and had the dash light up with amber lamps and the info centre telling me the HDC System Is Unavailable and that the suspension is lowering. It also sounds like I’m running over a rumble strip at speeds between 25 and 50.

I had a quick scan of the forums and had the battery replaced as suggested - fault returned this morning. I’ve ordered the brake switch replacement (again as suggested on these forums) to see if that cures the warning lamps.

As for the rumble strip noise, I’m guessing the rear diff may be to blame?? I get no feeling of vibration through the steering wheel when it happens.

I still love this car though...!

Diagnostic reader next on the list to buy! Any recommendations for a good one?

Hi

Must admit is really a must with these vehicles as there so complicated

I’ve got a gap iid, many of us use these , unfortunately they are around £420 that work via Bluetooth on ur iPad or iPhone but pay for themselves very quickly ,can read / clear faults , update ecu, set up and calibrate suspension , turn things on and off , the list goes on

Only need 4-5 trips to a dealer and they’ve paid for themselves

U can buy the non Bluetooth version but then have to use ur steering wheel controls and look at the small instrument panel display which can be a pain

Here’s a link, scroll down to functionality list and put in ur details, will show u a full list of what it can do

https://www.gap-diagnostic.com/products/iidtool/

Have u got a multimeter , know you’ve got a new battery fitted but best to check what the Vdc is at the battery with the engine off , then running with nothing turned on, then turn everything on and need it around 2,000 revs to see if the Vdc drops when u turn everything on

Hope that helps

Plse let us know how u get on and plenty here to always help so don’t ever worry about asking questions

Ps, assume you’ve checked that the belts , oil pump cover has been done

Plus the rumble noise is more than likely because ur suspension has lowered

See what it’s like after fitting the new brake light switch , renowned for causing issues

Also checking when u get diagnostics the steering wheel angle sensor if correct

Ur very welcome

Don’t worry about it Mate we all start somewhere , lol, after 3 x years of owning my D3 it’s amazing how quickly u start to pick up knowledge , along with the help of forum members

Update:

So I’ve checked the battery voltage and all seems normal. Installed the replacement brake switch and all seemed fine for the first mile and a half when the fault reappeared!

Still waiting on my Gap reader so it’s booked into KMotors (again) tomorrow! Hopefully they’ll get to the root of the problem and the warranty covers it

When you say "the battery voltage seems normal", what do you call normal?
12 volts is not normal for example, 12.6 to 12.8 engine off could be said to be normal, 14 volts plus engine running is also normal.
