What kind of hazard switch have you got? My series switch is the pull out for on type and there are a lot of wires attached to it.

I think it is. You should have a feed wire on one side from the back of the switch and an earth connection on other.
Mine had a dodgy earth connection but you can also get a blown grain bulb. You can replace just the bulb if its dead.

IIRC, there should be a tail from the main hazard switch earth to the side/telltale.
