I get the impression that some folks on here reckon the Haynes manual is a steaming pile of poo. Having used it myself to do a service and a couple of other bits, it seems OK to me but then I don't know very much.

I hear you can get an electronic copy of the proper LR service & repair manual - anybody know where I can download it from?

Haynes book for a Disco 1 is perfectly useable for most operations; however look at the sections on transfer boxes and gearboxes...

Also found a couple of minor errors in mine and believe (from a post I saw on here?) that the procedure given for tightening headbolts is wrong.

The current one for a Rover 800 is not quite useless, but is fairly "high-level".

Have one my Dad bought for an Austin 1800...leagues better, even showing how to make special tools etc.

Bought my Land Rover CD from one of the big parts suppliers, but I'd be surprised if it's not downloadable somewhere...it's much better than Haynes (as you'd expect in any circumstance given that's what the dealers would use).

I have them all in PDF format for my 90, there is a site (I think German) that has them all on it, just had a google there but nothing jumped out at me, a cup of coffee and a a search will no doubt bring something up.

The problem with Haynes is some of the torque wrench settings are incorrect, and the new ones are just not as good quality.

Have you noticed on the back page?
They even do manuals for Baby, Man and Sex. FFS. I notice they dont do one for Women Yet. Cos after 16 years ,I still carnt work out how the one ive got works

Thanks for the opinions. That dodgy foreign website had plenty of land rover manuals but didn't seem to have any disco manuals on it and searching the web and other forums for answers unearthed precisely fek all. I will continue the internet hunt tonight and if I find any good stuff (dicovery 1 related, that is) I will post an update.
