Has anyone put a S1 body onto a P38 chassis?

As it says, is anyone aware of a body conversion done on a P38 chassis?
It’s come up on another thread and was wondering if it has previously been done, if someone could point me in the right direction?

P38 is not really any different to a Discovery or a RRC as they use a ladder frame chassis.

There have been hundreds of freds of Disco's and RRCs becoming donors for 100" Defenders and chopped into 90s and stretched into 110s and I've seen one stretched into a 140" for a special flat bed but using the 300Tdi Disco as the platform for a single cab flat bed utility.

I think you are probably asking for a step by step type fred of how to do it and I can't think of one off the top of my head.

The idea is the same with them all, axle centre of wing and then weld on the bulkhead mounts from there and be prepared for a heck of a lot of head scratching and compromise.
 
Fabrication isn’t a problem, it’s just that looking at the rear of the chassis, , the curvature of the rear would restrict the fitting of the rear tub?
Reduction of width of overall length of the chassis is fine but, I’m not to keen on cutting sections out of a chassis to alter the profile, mainly to avoid potential issues with the VOSA man/MOT?

Just to point out that you will have issues with VOSA for sure as it will need an IVA as it will be a modified chassis, MOT man won't worry as long as it is road worthy but welding on new outriggers to mount the series bulkhead is a no no as it modifies the chassis other than intended.

If you get all excited and do it anyway and don't get it IVA'd and kill someone then expect to require a soap on a rope.

Depends on how much free time and facilities you have at your disposal?

If I had free time and a decent workshop then I would be building P38 based pick ups and flat beds on a regular basis, I would love to build a P38 DCPU with an extra 15" stretch in the chassis and extend the tub using an original rear body to achieve that factory look, thought about doing it to a D2 with terminal chassis rot that came up locally really cheap but I just don't have the space :(

Ehh, I personally like me P38's just big 4x4's, a nice 130 def pickup wouldn't go a miss however.

DCPU but without the hideous bling.

That PU looks nice but I would swap out that factory door handle for something more "industrial" to give it that "I am not really a converted factory car" look but they are very close.

See a 130 is only 19" longer wheelbase than a P38, If I add 15" it turns into 122" and makes a load bed proportional and usable compared with building off the standard chassis.

Got any info on the SCPU build?
