Hi All

After much research and consideration I have come to the conclusion that it is not feasible to fit a double din headunit to the apature that used to house the sat nav screen on my 2001 4.6 vogue.

There was 1.5 inches short of the depth required and I did consider hacking into the top of the heater unit to find the depth but was informed by a land rover mechanic that this would cause havoc with the blend motors inside it and would not be feasible.

I did find a post on another link where a canadian company did manage to fit a double din unit using the original single din unit and the area above it. This also requires hacking into the heater unit but in an area that wil not impede on its operation. for anyone interested the link is here;

RangeRovers.net • View topic - Double DIN install

I have also discountedd this because i went to two audio fitters who I know and both have said that it is a lot of hassle and will never look a good enough finish.

Therefore, I now intend to fit a single din unit that has the same DVD/ipod/Sat nav/Digital TV and bluetooth funtions but comes with a flip out screen as opposed to a fixed double din screen.

I have also researched fitting a single din aftermarket headunt to the car but my head is starting to spin. I have a 11 or 12 speaker Harmon Kardon system with an Alpine OEm headunit in my car and have seen conflicting information regarding its set up. I have also looked on nexia's website and their link leads but again am unsure if they work.

1. Does my car have an amp in each door and a sub amp in the boot, or does my sub amp which I definately have power all speakers. (different websites say different things)

2. Because I have the Alpine headunit the sound output comes from the brown connector on the headunit loom which has two pairs of wires on them. Nexia do a link lead which converts the wires to rca connectors. Would these rca's plug into audio out or amp out. ie. must my headunit have two amp outputs (plus a sub output too)

3. I have seen another site that mentions the need for a circuit to be made using resisters to lower the output down to about 70 ohms. is this also needed.

Please can some explain in simple terms what needs to be done to allow me to fit a new headunit and get all speakers to work well.

Thanks again

Chris

P38s are very tricky to fit after market systems in. I looked at all the cables and connectors available but they can be pricey and do they work, im not sure.
I chose the head unit i wanted and bought a 6 channel 1500 watt amp off fleabay for about 80quid the wired it all in seperately to the existing speakers. live from battery to amp in boot then new cables from headunit to amp and new speaker wiring inot a 3 way splitter then to each door speaker ( splitter sts at the front of the door pocket, disconnect all speaker wiring from door stations. Bingo.

Hi
Thanks for that advice and i was thinking it might be easiest to do something similar.

Can you explain what the three way splitter is and how it would be wired up?

A six channel amp would run 6 stereo speaker but there is twelve in the car, is this what the splitter does, change the 6 channels to 12.

An audio fitter mentioned something about having to use 4 crossovers, one in each door to feed three speakers in each front door and the two speakers in each rear door.

Also, is it the audio out cables that would run to the amp. I need to make sure the headunit I'm thinking of getting has enough amp outputs to be able to connect to the amp correctly and then onto the speakers.

Thanks again

Chris
