Only three things can go wrong with a water pump.
The shaft seal wears so the pump leaks, coolent can be seen dripping from underneath the pump.
The shaft bearing can fail, the noise along with a wobbling pully with leave no doubt of that.
And rare but has be known the pumps impeller can become detached which will be noisy.
