Hey everyone,
I am new here so apologies if I have posted this in the wrong place and having a negative post as my firt post.
I just got my freelander V6, 2004, this week and been looking in the engine compartment and couldn't help but notice a loose wire/cable hanging from underneath the car battery. It was not connected to anything and would appear it hasn't for some time. It doesn't reach very far, maybe 6 inches and can't see anywhere that it could plug into.
Does anyone have any idea what this wire is for?
I have heard it is for the cruise control however my car does not have cruise control.
Hopefully someone can help, I have no idea how to even post a picture on here ahh!
Thank you :)

Maybe it was a direct feed of something the previous owner installed and that he cut the wire after he removed it/before he sold the car ?? Where ends the connected side of that cable ??

Hey thanks for the replies so far :)
Hd3 thanks for the tip, hopefully these pictures show up? It just bugs me as I worry that cable is actually for something you know?
Willo the wire/connection looks too factory fit/made to be a custom part the owner installed. The other end comes from underneath the car battery, but I can’t see or reach where exactly under the battery.
Hopefully the pictures may give you all a better idea what it could be because I am beat for ideas

Maybe it's a feed for the FBH which was not installed. This looks part of the factory installed cables, depending on the edition of car one has you can find several of these things hanging loose if the specific option for which it is meant was not taken when the car was ordered.

Hi Willo, it is a 2004 model petrol v6 with the facelift lights etc. I was taking the engine cover off to check the engine as I was smelling oil after a journey, and when putting the cover back on, I saw this wire and thought that looks odd. I wasn’t sure if I had pulled it out somewhere?
I take it that nobody has these wires hanging from underneath the battery then?
Is this a common thing to find, having spare cables dotted about in the car if the optional extras were not installed? You think Land Rover would just put the extras in for free to stop me from worrying :)
Haha DD that did make me laugh. My friends did ask what did I do wrong this time ha! :)

I've got a mystery wire there in my 1.8 too, not sure what it does. I wouldn't worry, if your Hippo starts and goes from A to B that's the main thing. There are some links in my signature that will help you if you're new to FL ownership.

Will.

Hi Will,

really glad to hear that- so I am not going crazy after all :D

and I checked those links out thanks for that.

from what i am gathering as long as we're ontop of watching over and caring for our FLs, we should be alright? I keep hearing horror stories but i obviously wasnt bothered by them as i still ended up buying a FL :)

Hi Superman,

Your pics are not the clearest - but as already said the plug you have there looks suspiciously like the power feed to the fuel burning heater.

It is of course only fitted to diesels models, and even then not to all, as it was an option for some of them.

Oh, and welcome to LandyZone by the way.

If you're happy with that thought, be my guest ....:D:D:D

Hi S.
Maybe they are using the same "kabelboom" for all models ??
(Ps: I do my utmost best all the time to translate all that E. language into understandable (for me) language, so now it's time for you guys to try to figure out what kabelboom means. And no excuses. On the double and on the job):)
