1990 110 Hi Cap Pickup.

I park on a slight slope on which the vehicle would normally easily freewheel.
Of late I find that when I release the handbrake it does not rest in the fully off position but springs up very slightly. Also when I pull away there is a slight resistance sufficient to prevent freewheeling on the slope. After a few minutes driving this resistance eases off. Is it likely to be the handbrake cable sticking, any ideas ?

sounds like your cables starting to sieze up ( had to do the farther-in-laws td5 the other week ) .
Take it off and lube it up the best you can or buy a new one :) ( only prob with lubing it up is **** gets stuck in it , the cable and linner are nylon coated ) .

Been offroading - wading etc ? Recipe for hand break probs and difficult to avoid. I have had similar probs, even a "stalling noise" at low speeds as hand break locks on. On examination - more mud and silt that you could ever think you could fit into drum

No never been offroading or even through mud just a lot of snow&salt a month ago.
If the cable is sticking would that cause the handbrake lever to not fully retract ?

Butif you have the shoes adjusted properly the shoes should never need to be changed as they should not be rubbing on anything and dont do any braking.

Also are you having any electircal problems as a seized handbreak cable can be a sign of earth starp failure as it will earth through the cable and melt the outer cover to the cable!

Ah'd be tempted tae whip the drum off and have a look mesel'. It might be the drum is full of crud, gunged up adjuster plunger / pistons stickin' or contamination from a knackered output oil seal;)

I'm 'new' and I'm not !
I was active here a couple of years back, nothing since, came to post today and forgot my old username and password. Even my old email provider-lycos- no longer exists so it was easier to register anew!
Thanks for the advice,much appreciated.
