Handbrake 'pings' back on

the handbrake on my 1990 90" has an issue, when i release the handbrake and push it down it decides to ping up a couple of clicks, i am unaware if the cable is too tight or something simple like that. Any help is really appreciated

adjust cable its too long and will snap eventually

Most probably handbrake seized or full of mud. Does handbrake work when it's pulled on. Mine did exactly the same many times. Finally give up with it and bought an x brake. No problems now.
