can anyoune tell me how to adjust my handbrake as it is crap and the discs and pads are nearly new its a 200 series 2.5 tdi on a 93 L reg

transmition brakes the drum lookin thing stuck on the back of yer gear / t/ fer box, get 2 x 19 mm spanners , undo the lockin nuts then hand adjust the cable till yer get bout 4/5 clicks, if yer need more adjustment , its on the back of the drum , 10mm i think,

i thing i would be better off with a gallon of petrol and a lighter
The chances are your handbrake drum and brake shoes are contaminated with oil out of the transfer box.
It's better to take the drum off and clean the whole thing out including the shoes with petrol, use a paint brush.
Let it dry and reassemble and adjust. Should be ok for a few years then.

I've posted this elsewhere, but maybe here is more appropriate..

If the adjustment doesn't work is it possible the handbrake shoes need replacing? My Disco handbrake has just stopped working and I've tried the adjuster nut at the drum, and the cable - no effect.

take the prop off, note positions of everythin, undo drum screws / nut then remove it, un clip brake springs then check shoes ! think ther only a tenner a set any way, ;) **** the expense, replace them while its stripped

Thanks for the replies - very helpful!

No need to change the shoes, they last a lifetime I think... Lots of grease ,dirt and oil as mentioned by others, but clean as a whistle after a petrol session. All-in-all another few quid saved - many thanks.
