Handbook Symbol

Can anybody suggest a usual suspect for the Handbook (sorry, ment checkbook) symbol on the climate / HEVAC controller??

That has happened to me twice:

1- During a sandstorm... I immediately turned off the AC without knowing the cause.... It seemed to go away on it's own the next day when I turned on the AC.

2- I was driving through a fog from fumigation and the smell was terrible... again, went off on its own later.

It appears that there might be a sensor which warns of any unnatural substances in the air and automatically shuts down the AC to avoid any trouble

have a look in your engine compartment fuse box there should be two relays for your blower motors check if they are burnt or smell burnt, also could possibly be your blend motors

The handbok symbol means that the climate control (HEVAC) ECU thinks there is a problem with your system.

The correct way to deal with it is to take it to you land rover garage and get them to read out the error code with their computer and tell you what is wrong. Probably wise to check fuses etc before hand to make sure it is not something simple.

Mine popped up a few times a couple of weeks ago, but now it seems to have gone away again!

Grrr. . this is starting to drive me round the twist!!!
The book nevers appears in the mornings, but more often than not appears in the evening - though not always.
I hate to say it, but it looks like its time to squander the pennies and visit LR

Have you checked the pollen filters? Don't know if it is relevent, but apparently if they are very dirty, then can cause un-necessary load on the air con. Not sure if that is a reason for the book to appear, but might be worth a look. I think they are supposed to be changed every 30,000, but some suggest you change them more often.

I had hand book symbol as well.
Very bad news heater matrix had bad leak due to cylinder head going also need radiator. Not cheap
