took the center section out to adjust my hand brake and found that the leaver doesnt actually do anything, the rod that conects it to the brake looks like its attached to the handle and has a bolt on top but doesnt move atall, i tried moving the rod by hand and its seized, and the brake adjusters are all seized aswell so i cant get the drum off!

so has anyone got any advice how i can get the hole thing apart?

thanks

It's in the manual, but a good look at the parts book helps you sort out where all the bits go...
pdf Land Rover Manuals | Landroverweb.com

Unbolt handbrake lever bracket from chassis, unbolt relay from chassis, disconnect both rods from relay (split pin out then they unscrew) and you can see if its the lever assembly, relay or spreader that's siezed.
The spreader can be got at after taking the drum off (I think you can leave the propshaft on?) - make sure the adjuster works.
if the shoes are oily you'll have to replace the output seal on the transfer box.

Unfortunately, you will probably have to take it from above and below. Levers should come out from the top but some of the drum fasteners will require some grovelling.

i'll just have to break out the wd40
Since owning a land rover I have been converted to Plus gas, much more efficacious than wd40 as it hangs around longer and penetrates better.... in my opinion:)

The two under seat covers (drivers and middle) should come out without much trouble and will help with access and illumination but some bits are best accessed fro underneath.

My seats arn't in at the moment anyway so i'll just take the seat covers off, i think i'll just have to strip everything off the car and clean it up and rebuild, ive never heard of that plus gas but i'll look into it.

thanks for the advice

Plus gas is better than WD40 'cos it's designed as a penetrating releasing fluid - WD40 is more of a water dispersant.

Plus Gas is a miracle worker, I've found it helps with getting hard to bust loose bolts, screws, and even stuck brake drums apart on my very rusty old field find land rover station wagon...

I bought some a while back, sprayed all the handbrake linkage and the nuts and bolts, free'd it all up and took it apart, cleaned it up and gave it a coat of paint. brake seems to be fine now.
cheers for introducing it to me

on the plusgas thing its great fer shocking siezed rusted bolt threads coz it combusts

you gotta try this coz it werks a treat speshuly with siezed in spark plugs

get the engine warm then soak the plugs with the plusgas or if its just a normal bolt warm it up with a heat gun ( about house radiator temp ) and wait till its cooled for 10 mins then with a small hammer and a centre punch one or two short fast taps at the base of the thread where it dissapears into the hole or nut its in and youll see a whisp of white smoke where the plusgas has ignited in the threads and shocked the bolt loose

trust me it works :D:D:D
