Hi all
First of all MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

now once again my p38 had got ANOTHER issue.
over the last few weeks i have noticed that the handbrake is no holding on hills. even if i really pull it hard it does not always hold.
handbrake itself is able to be pulled up to 8 clicks!!!

how many is there supposed to be and how much roughly for a new cable???
and is the cable in 1 or 2 parts??

aint looked yet cos there is so much snow on the floor still.

Thanks.

not yet as me dad has borrowed it for a few days. get it back tomorrow so i will check then.
just basicly wanted to no how many clicks there is supposed to be cos 8 sounds abit much.

The hand brake is adjustable. It should be on in three clicks. First knock cable adjuster back where cable comes through floor. Then 17mm socket on adjuster on lower backplate towards front of car. Tighten to 18lb feet then back off 1 1/2 turns. Just nip up and back off 1 1/2 turns will do.Then adjust cable adjuster until brake is on in three clicks. Also make sure you don't have an oil leak from rear output oil seal that will also cause hand brake to lose grip.

ok i have had a look at it adjusted it all and its now on 4 clicks. will just have to wait and see if it holds.

As Wammers ses I always thought it should start to work on three.

You really need to have jacked up either the front or the back and turn one of the wheels to ascertain whether its starting to bite or not.

Or are you gonna wait n see if its binding as you drive it or it runs off down a hill without ya

well i followed what i was told.
the hand brake was on 8 clicks and it was holding but not always on hills.
now when i go to pull away with the handbrake on it is holding. so should be ok. gotta go out in a bit so i guess we shall see.

That's ok then, just taking the slack up with cable adjuster is NOT the way to do it.
