Been getting round the series 3 over the weekend, all was going well i replaced both the front leaf srings, both the rear shock rubbers, and sorted the centre exhaust strap.:)

Now to the horrible job, sorting the handbrake and replacing the seal and shoes.

All was going ok,dropped the rear of the prop and set about removing the drum which was stinking of old oil.:(

Tried to pull the prop from the front flange it moved about an inch and would'nt budge no further

well being a landy virgin this threw me a little,so i thought ok i'll undo the front flange.

Managed to undo two nuts when it came to the next two ,some c..nt had
rounded em off!! bastud

They was still shiney ish, it seems whatever halfwit had been there before they just thought sod it it can stay like it.

well now im foocked ,i need to get them off to sort the seal out an shoes for the retest also when i pulled the drum off the backplate bolts we're hanging out:confused:

any thoughts about how i can get these off would be very helpful lads and ladies of course.;)

Undo the six bolts that hold the drum on and slip,it backwards over the propshaft. That should give you enough room to slip a dremel cutting blade into the propshaft bolts and remove the prop. Take the flange off and the backplate is held onto the speedo drive with four studs and nuts. The drum bolts are semi captive and are removed from the back of the flange.

ok cheers mate, its a bit close to the uj, will they be able to get on the nuts ok?

I think so - the cutting discs are only about an inch in diameter. If you can get a socket in you should be able to cut enough of the nut off to remove it with a chisel. You might need to split the UJs to get more clearance but they're cheap and probably need replacing (if you lose any of the rollers)

I tried to bash a 1/2 inch socket on ,but it would'nt have it,the nuts seem soft so i'm gonna try and cut the side of the nuts off with a new cold chisel failing that i'll try all the other options;)

 i'm such a div i did'nt even notice that bit g man,too busy day dreaming about landys!!!

cheers for that looks like a must have and and seeing as im a virgin i'll be spending more time underneath than on top :)

3/8 drive short socket and a short extension bar works for me. No good if the nuts are rounded off, though.

Had a go at it today useing a small cold chisel ,i cut the side of the nut by chopping it away then took a punch and got it to turn by tapping it around.

result orf it came, mind you it took an hour and half !

The last nut was even easier,it was'nt as rounded off as the previous one.

I took a 19/32 socket and tapped it on,then with three long extension bars
going through the chassis where the prop goes .

A quick tug on the ratchet an wallop it was orf .

Brute force and ignorance - you cant beat it. Land Rover Special Tool 001 is a 4lb club hammer. :)
