I'm TOTALLY new to the world of Landies although I can navigate my way around engines and electrics. I am, however, the World's Worst Welder. Bearing this in mind, the rear half of my 88 chassis is quite rough, and while I think it would be possible to repair with a few plates, I would like to replace the half chassis. First things first, there is no way that I would be competent to do this job myself. Therefore, is it normally a difficult and expensive job to have done. What other parts should I expect to replace as well as the half chassis.

After I have recovered from this expense I plan on fitting parabolic springs and longer dampers. As I spend as much time off road as on, and normally by on road I mean pot-holed Donegal roads, I need to know is this a worthwhile upgrade.

If anyone has bothered to read this far, I would like to fit good recovery points to the front of my 88, please advise as to the best course of action.

Thanks folks

Got a good Landy chap to do your half chassis! You need to lift the body up and re-wire the rear, and ensure everything is lined up. Mate of mine got this done for £250.

Fit a towing ball to the front bumper, in line with the dumb irons, and with a strong plate behind the bolts to ensure it doesn't pull throught he holes. Fit one on each side and it halfs the strain. Good towballs to fit would be the Jaw type, with pins, as the tow rope is more secure when rescueing/being rescued and the strain is more even.

Not had any experience of parabolics, but heard they are a vast improvement. Better on road, more articulation off road.
