After going through the MOT last Friday our P38 came back with a couple of advisories - one of which was an intermittent fault on the left-hand rear ABS sensor. We have the ABS and TCS light on all the time an then the guy tested it he plugged his diagnostic unit in and managed to turn the lights off long enough to do the test. However the Diag unit reported an intermittent fault on the lefthand rear sensor - I am assuming by left-hand it means offside rear.
So - the question is - how hard is it to replace these sensors? Looking through the web there seems to be various horror stories attached to extracting the old ones then getting the new into the right position.

Other than this the eadvisories were hot spots on the front disks - so new disks are required and uneven wear on the front tyres so steering alignment needs looking aat. I need to get this sensor sorted first though.

Not hard to replace the sensor but use a new sensor bush when you do. The old sensor may be siezed and may take a bit of time to get it out. Push the new sensor in till it contacts the reluctor ring and it will adjust itself when you drive the car. It's all in Rave. When you say you have the lights on all the time do you mean they never go out? They will stay on until the car exceeds 7kph.

Thank you all. I downloaded RAVE last night, not had a chance to look into it yet.
Yes - the lights are on constantly regardless of road speed. Everything else is working OK - got a pulse through the pedal on braking at low speeds which probably explains the "hot spots" reported on the front disks and is why they are being replaced too.

I will ask the mechanic whether he meant physically the left hand or whether it was the diagnostic report that said left hand - don't want to replace the wrong one as the cost too much for that sort of error :)

It doesn't matter L/H rear wheel is N/S rear wheel if diag says L/H it means N/S of car.

Thanks folks. Ordered the following parts from Paddocks - bit of a wait as the ABS sensor was special order with 1 to 2 days waiting time:
* Kit, Mintex Front Disks & Pads - part number BRAKEKIT7M
* ABS Sensor - Rear from VA346794 - Part number STC3385
* Bush for ABS Sensor - Part number FTC1374
Total bill £168 and a few pennies :eek:

Lets hope this turns the lights off :)
