Evening all,

Bit of a squeak going to work today, then a bigger squeak and a bonk with loss of power steering.

One of the pulleys seems to have shed its bearings and gone all Pete Tong. What is the actual name of the part marked '3' on the schematic and where's best to order a new one? Or is it a case of getting the bearings pressed back in? If you happen to know the belt number off the top of your head too that would be great, no markings on this belt and Haynes manual at work.

Ta muchly

Well that's just swell :) Thank you

You weren't very idle in answering that question! I'm guessing with the automatic tensioner it's an easy fit job?!?

Dont get a cheap idler. I had an allmakes one lasted a few months before it failed.

Will be ringing local (luckily) stealership tomorrow. I'm assuming the car will drive just won't have power assisted steering and the alternator won't charge the battery?!? Or does is do something else weird and wonderful?

You might need to take the fan off. The spring loaded jockey wheel down at the bottom on the driver's side can be pulled over by means of a socket on the pulley nut. Shouldn't take very many minutes to do.

Will I survive a 6 mile drive to work in the morning?

Other than power steering, alternator and the fan, does it run anything else? Water pump or anything likely to make things worse?

If not. Will need to sort a lift in.

Cheers

With no alternator I wouldn't trust it to start when you leave work.

Yep. Figured I can get to work and I'll sort the idler there. Got jump leads so fingers crossed. Was more worried the belt was driving something more crucial.

Cheers all

Well, that was a fun drive. The belt obviously does drive something crucial (the vacuum pump or something brake related) as I had nada brakes along with no power steering. Luckily the toddler on the first bend managed to jump out of the way.

I was worried about the water pump so drove a mere 20mph for the most part (so not to put too much load and drive up the heat). Temp gauge didn't even hit the middle mark (which is normal for that short morning journey). Luckily 90% of the journey is a country lane not often used, didn't pass another car.

Ringing local Landy garage now, fingers crossed they have parts and I'm able to fit after work!
