Hi,

I've got a Defender TD5 MY-2003 with 37k miles on the clock. When I turn the steering wheel quickly to the left (more than half a turn) I get a groaning noise which comes from the engine area. As I say this only happens when turning the wheel quickly and in one direction only. In honesty it's not a big issue to me personally however, if it's something that can be fixed easily or cheaply I would be inclined to get it sorted. The power steering fluid is at the correct level and appears to be clean.

Any thoughts ?

Thanks.

Have a look at the drive belt which drives the power steering pump, may be worn or a bit oily, try cleaning the pulleys with brake cleaner see if that makes it go away, but you may find it comes back and you need a new belt.
